Heroic?

Nothing has changed since yesterday- I am still crabby and achy and generally miserable. But apparently some of you find that interesting and I'm not one to fake a mood, so, heck, come on in...

For the last two days I've been navigating around my new computer world with Mac White. I have a user account now. It's kind of like, Jethro and I have this house, right, and he's got the upstairs and I've got the downstairs, and he's not home to use it much, but I'm always home and moving more stuff in and poking into closets and trying to figure out where everything is. That's what it's like sharing a computer with him. Sort of.

Remember to come by tomorrow when we say goodbye to my Mac Black. It's very important to me.

Yesterday I took my Girl to the orthodontist. Yeesh. I never had braces. Now, at the ripe old age of 36, my two front teeth are sort of folding into each other. It's starting to look odd. My teeth appear to be heading into the front of my mouth, collapsing, muchlike the rest of my face, hahahaha. Ha. I do not want to get it fixed though, after what the Girl's been through. And Dr Sunshine is a pretty blonde sadist who smiles when describing what horrific procedure we're going to do next!

Girl has an overbite. I think she's perfect. She's beautiful. I don't feel the need to spend more money and agony on this project anymore, but according to Dr Sunshine, if we quit now, we face a very real possibility of those teeth getting all out of place again as she progresses through the teen years. And also the wearing of the teeth could be affected. Oh and also we signed a contract.

Options? Either yank out of few teeth or get some heroic headgear use going on. Like, 18 hours a day of headgear. As well as elastics between the jaws. And springs between the molars. I could see the Girl's eyes imploring me to stop the insanity now and please make it all stop and let's just quit. But I couldn't stop thinking about all the money we've spent on her mouth being wasted if her teeth go all wonky again from quitting too soon.

Dr Sunshine had her clamp her molars together to show me that overbite, and the way her teeth still angle out. She used to have very severe buck teeth. Now they just kind of have an enthusiastic presentation. Like, hello world, here we are, big shiny white front teeth!

"Yeah," I said, "she's got the Angelina Jolie teeth."

Dr Sunshine and the assistant kind of snickered.

"Hasn't really hurt her any," I continued, "as far as the whole husband, kids, career thing goes."

Well then they all sniggered and looked slightly perturbed, because if all pretty young girls aspired to look like Angelina, none of them would finish their orthodontical contract!!

So, it's back to headgear for us. I say us because even though it's going on her head...I will suffer.

Like I haven't enough already...

*sigh*... The things we have to go through with our children... Being a kid isn't easy, but being a parent watching our own go through things we had to endure isn't easy, either...
hang in there...

my mom didn't trust the dentist that told her i needed braces...now, in my late 30's, with a bad bite and my teeth literally splintering along the gum line, i am still furious at her about that...but I got no insurance now! Hopefully in the next five years or so, I can try to repair it all.

An enthusiastic presentation? LOL. Honestly, I love the way you put things. I think that the girl is gorgeous, too. Seriously. Like a cross between you and your sister.

I am dreading this when we have to take Jessica in. I know that she will have to have some teeth pulled, and God knows what else. How much do you think I am going to spend on this little project?

Biddie, I think you should really resist the teeth pulling option. I won't let them take out her teeth. I mean, they're changing the shape of her skull if they start making gaps and forcing her jaw into shape. It just seems kind of extreme. Y'know? Like, god put the teeth there for a reason! Or maybe I'm just paranoid.

We're paying $150 a month. That's what the contract worked out to, according to the estimate on how long it'll take to get her teeth all straightened out. Get after that man who technically fathered her, that's what I say. Braces are a hassle and a pain but I do think it's worth doing, and besides, that man hasn't really done much else!

Dilling, that's exactly why I'm not going to do as my daughter wishes and order this process finished! I don't want to regret it later! I do hope you can get your teeth worked on. I love my teeth. Teeth are wonderful. I wish everybody could have good teeth.

Anita, Well said. Just very said.

You know, Angelina has what men call a butterface. We look at everything she has butterface. That being said, I didn't even know she had teeth.

we dont realise how lucky we are over here to have free dental treatment for our kids.
having said that my son refused braces, he was a late teether, still had baby teeth at 15! and it would ahve meant him having a brace at the age of 16 to 18 and he was having none of it! he has good strong teeth if a bit wonky.
so i am glad you are carrying on with your daughters treatment, she will thank you for it in time

Sometimes the teeth are just too big for the jaw/mouth. I had all four eye teeth and four molars removed as a kid to make room. Had braces. Wore a retainer (bottom only) for the next 7 years until they could pull my wisdom teeth. Then in my thirties guess what? They all started slowly going a little crooked again. To hell with it - gives me character!

yeah! Character!!
