The Sharon Temple

On Friday evening the kids and I took a drive with Grandmar and Grandpar.
We visited a unique and beautiful place in the town of Sharon. It's a very small town close to a very greedy large town. Nestled in the middle of town stands the Sharon Temple. It's a perfectly symmetrical church built by a pacifist denomination (there are others besides Mennonites!) well over a hundred years ago. Do visit the website: you'll learn more there than I can tell you here. (My 12 year old Girl took most of these photos.)

Unfortunately the tickets to the Fall Illumination were sold out. However, we did stalk the place from outside the fence.

And of course, hang with the grandparents, in the coffee shop across the street, watching as the sky darkened and one by one the windows were lit up. Next year I want to go back for the Illumination. I have to see the inside of it. If you look closely at the blurry, slightly spooky photos, you can get a glimpse of the columns in the interior.

From where we stood, we could catch intermittent bursts of sound coming from inside the temple. Look at the images here, and imagine the sound of a choir, singing one long note. Thrilling. Humans are capable of such beauty.

Just looking at these pictures makes me think of the chill creeping into the air these last few evenings. It makes me feel slightly melancholy. It makes me want to put on a warm sweater. I'm not ready to let summer go yet...but the warm glow of lights in the darkening night makes me feel assured that things are going the way nature intended. Just like the seasons have turned for millions of years.

Here kids, lean over the fence for a look, but your ass hat mom got no tickets!

Sorry about being melencholy, but... It's a rather nice building! Did any security come out and threaten you with tasers if you didn't stop taking photographs? Like in Area 51?

The pics are very nice, and haunting. Tell your Girl she did a great job.

It looks like y'all had a lovely evening.
