She's a "varnish roan" which actually is common among Appaloosas. She doesn't have spots like Phoenix but when she was a yearling, she was red with white on her hips! You just never know with this breed.
They are definitely a horse of a different colour!!
Yes she does get sunburn. Without her fly mask, she sometimes gets burned on her eyelids too, because the skin around her eyes is pink with black speckles.
Sunscreen doesn't really work because it spreads into the water tank when she takes a drink. Next year I might get a fly mask for her with a nose flap or sew a fringe along the nose band, just to keep the sun off.
