Taking a Short Break from my Blog Break...

Blog break-- temporarily OFF

I did some light lurking, and continued to attend Blogiversity (taught by those nice people listed in the sidebar as Not So Secret Agents). I averaged about 1000 new words per day. Don't really wanna talk about it. Taught half a riding lesson. Things are ticking along.

But, it's Friday, and we all know why we're here, don't we? Let's just stop playing these little games. Look what I found when surfing around to get my mind off of aimless plots, stilted dialogue and boring characters....

Yes. Yes, that is a CARHARTT COAT he is wearing. Yes. Oh happiness. Corduroy collar! Blanket lining! Metal zipper! Bedhead! Johnny Depp wearing an olive green Carhartt coat! Yes!

When he's done that cig-rette he can come out to the barn!!!!

I love this- you can see the whole "I'm really concentrating on listening in order to give you a witty answer, and thanks for giving me an ashtray, yes thank you, and when I'm done with this interview I'll be heading home for a nap."

I don't like cig-rettes. I think the roll your owns are actually better for you. Those filtered ones are like, made out of tobacco and formaldehyde and jet fuel or some crap like that. At least tobacco is a plant. But still. Don't like the smoking. That doesn't change my affection for the person the smoke comes out of though. One of my grandpas smoked hand rolled cigs for most of my childhood. Grandma planted geraniums in the empty Daily Mail cans, lined up on the windowsill behind the couch to catch the sunlight. Grandpa sat in his corner, his plastic legs on the floor in front of him, and from the beautiful chrome ashtray stand, the curls of smoke rose into the air. I watched the shapes the smoke made, those fascinating pinstripe swirls, while my Grandpa watched Wonder Woman. He left the Amish Mennonite church because he wanted to have a radio. He was a quiet dry-humoured Mennonite in suspenders and a brown fedora, who rode his "motoscooter" down to the post office everyday. We kids used to do stunts with his wheelchair. He quit smoking, after 50 years, in his late sixties, right around the time he had to learn to walk again on those new legs. Stubborn, perfectionist stubborn man. He cleaned and oiled all of his garden implements before he hung them up in the little barn in the backyard of their house in town.

Huh. Where did that come from. Roll your owns. Daily Mail.

Thank you, Johnny... That was nice. Thanks.

Blog break--back ON.

HA, now that is a cool memory! Thanks for sharing.

Many, many, many thanks for sharing Johnny in Carhart! WUHOO!

Now, how long is this blog break going to last? And you didn't have anything to say about my cockamamie plan to spend three months in Alaska in 2009?

Heidi the Hick said...

Cindy, I'm still processing the cockamamie plan! I'm trying to calculate the distances between Alaska and Oklahoma. Just...wow. There is a whole freaking LOT OF Canada in between there!!! and I outta know, cuz I once took a roadtrip across most of it!

(I think you should do it. Just go for it! Whooooo!)

And you're welcome on the sharing. That was a whole lot of heart warming that I wasn't even expecting when I put up that picture...

Oh- I think I need another week of break. I'm not getting the shakes yet. So I think I need to back off for just another week and force my way further into this massive, nasty, difficult project.

Honestly, just when I think it's starting to flow I hit a wall. BUT, some of the Imaginary People are starting to become more real to me as I find out more about them. I just have to stay at it.

And I have to get ready to send the current project back out on its way again. I found more agents.

It's just what I gotta do right now. I will not stay away forever!!!! I like blogging too much.

Well, thank goodness you aren't planning to stay away forever, because my blogging world wouldn't be the same without you! I've been blogging with you for almost as long as I've been blogging. Since before your Bestest had a blog and way before I had a husband and all that stuff.

I am sorry you keep hitting a wall. But I have faith that you will break it down!

Oh, I estimated the cost of fuel between here and Alaska. We'll be flying! That's all I've got to say about that!

Heidi the Hick said...

haha! You can look at the prairies through the clouds instead of the car windows!

I'll be back, m'dear. We have such a great little group here!!!! I can't turn my back!!!!

Holy exclamation points there.

Okay. Dog walk time and then barn cleaning and filly grooming time.

My Daddy used to roll his own until he quit smoking in the mid-1950's. I can still see him doing that, sitting at the switchboard in our house where my parents made their living. He'd start rolling the next cigarette as soon as he put out the last one.

Heidi the Hick said...

Donna- with one hand, right?

I know guys who could roll a cig one handed while driving. Standard. Hee hee, they didn't have cell phones back then. Ah the bad ol days.

Okay I really got get outta the house now!! Dog walk barn cleaning time!

Another weeeeek? Dang...
You know, Michael and I may be in Alaska for three months in 2009, as well. Not in one place but if we knew everyone else was somewhere at one given time, we park the van for a bit...

That brought back memories of my dad rolling his own cigarettes. I didn't learn how to roll until I found out about... uh, the statue of limitations hasn't run out yet so I'll pass on this one. Hurry back again.

Wow. If you can make a character in a book come off the page like Grandpa just did, then I wanna read your novel!
Dude, that was good readin'.

Thank you Heidi!

(and enjoy the rest of your break!)

Yeah, I had no idea the topic would go that way...

He affects me in strange ways.

In case you're wondering, there is progress being made on the Extremely Unpleasant Novel.

Can't talk about it yet.

Oh sure. I stop by here after you visited me, and I see your blog is on hiatus. ;)

Seriously, thanks for the visit. Now that I see you have an interest in horses, I think I may have gotten something right in my vignette.
