Moving Manure, and other kinds of piles...

So on Saturday afternoon, I was on my Dad's tractor, taking the manure pile apart and taking it over to the compost pile, one bucket load at at time.

Today, I'm on my butt, moving links and other people's blogs over to this new template, one website address at a time.

Holy crap, I would rather be on the tractor.

It was so easy and so therapeutic. I got better at handling the hydraulic bucket every time I took another chunk outta that pile. I could see progress as the pile got smaller and the compost pile got bigger. I was getting back into the hang of shifting the tractor without chattering the gears.

But this...this Blogger thing...it's infuriating! I can't find where all my links went! They said they'd save a copy of my old template but I don't know where it is!! I feel like crying, I'm so frustrated! I'm sure I'll like this LAYOUT better than the old TEMPLATE once I get it all together, but you see, I fear change. And, I'm not very good at guessing where things should go or what to do next.

Driving the tractor though...well after a few minutes I felt like I always knew how to do it.

I started driving this tractor and the AR when I was about ten years old. I don't get many chances to get on it anymore. But I love it. Some people say you never forget how to ride a bike but not me- I haven't forgotten how to drive a tractor.

The bucket thing was new though.

I have a clue how to blog. But this layout/template thing is new.

I guess all of this comes down to the same thing: moving s**t around.

Both feel like a monumental time suck.

Both take a learning curve.

Both stink.

It was so hot that day I had sweat dripping down the sides of my face. When the rain started I kept going. I don't want to keep going with this because it isn't fun but I have to fix it up. I have many other things I'd rather do today but dammit the pile's gotta get moved. It ain't gonna move itself.

(My Photographer took these pictures from the upstairs bedroom window because she didn't want to melt in the rain.)

(Please remind me what your blog address is if it's not up in the list yet. I'm going on memory here and well, my memory's just not very good.)

(And please feel free to tell my how awesome I look in my thrift store overalls and my new John Deere hat. I need the cheering up!)

Ha ha Heidi - I'd rather be on the tractor too! I almost think I need to fly up there and move the compost pile back over to the manure pile. Then you could move it back and we'd both hae some therapy.

:-)

Oh man, Cindy, we have got to have a manure moving party!!! It could take days. It's a very small bucket.

We'll move s**t in shifts!

I'm not saying this just to get my blog linked... but you DO look really cute in overalls and a hat.

Now...please... may I have a link?

:)

It sounds lovely. I had the bright idea to handmake my invitations and ... well, it is taking a lot of time and many trips to the office supply and craft stores! Ugh!

Look at your with your flickr badge and everything! I am so proud!

Heidi the Hick said...

Yay! Cindy I did it!

Okay, Yay! My husband peeled me off the ceiling and coaxed me through it!!!!

Marni, yes, thank you- in my blog confusion haze I left you off the list and you're going back on RIGHT NOW!

"Hello, beastie..." LOL! I say this to my little one almost daily. :)

The tractor looks fun. I wouldn't mind moving a little manure every so often. The smell totally doesn't bother me. I should have been a farm girl...sigh.

You've done well, Young Heidi! Tomorrow the lesson will be "How to remove the www.flickr.com hyperlink so that your pictures move up closer to the border of your header". Are you ready for that?

Heidi the Hick said...

Whew. Yeah. Um. Yeah I want that lesson but...I have to get some friggin work down around here!!! I've spent the whole day fartin around here!

But YES MASTER I do want to learn how to do that! How much time do you have??

Jethro said...

Ah just LOOOVE yer Flicker Badge, baby! And I love yer learnin' curves too...

See, that wasn't so bad was it? Ya damn near blew up your whole blahg to do it, but heck, it was time for some spring cleaning anyhow on the ol' link bar...

Heidi the Hick said...

You are a patient, patient man, Jethro.

And you're really cute too.

Heidi the Hick said...

Ha ha ha! I just realized that I replied to Cindy's comment with

I have to get some friggin work down around here!!! I've spent the whole day fartin around here!

which makes it sound like I did nothing but fart all day, which isn't entirely true but still funny in a ten year old boy kind of way.

I gotta get outta the house more tomorrow...

Look at you, with yer fancy new photos and stuff....

Bibs fit you well Heidi...love the tractor with the loader and here I thought you did it all with a pitch fork... :)

Heidi the Hick said...

OH Biddie, it makes me look so much more happening than I really am!

Like...I can't get your link to work. Grrr....

LeRoy, that tractor is a scream. You should hear it! Nothing like the old two cylinder Johnnypopper. The overalls aren't authentic but they do the job just fine.

That pile is huuuuuge. We build it all winter and only move it in spring. It isn't even totally moved yet. I have a funny feeling the ol man's gonna leave it for me to finish...

Heidi the Hick said...

WHO AM I FORGETTING ON THE LINK LIST ?????????

Kim said...

Are you sure you have enough to do? I mean, two blogs, writing projects, job, kids..... now changing your template. I am impressed.

I will have to check this flicr thing out.

Heidi the Hick said...

Oh Karen, yesterday was a rainy day in the house. Today I have to get out and weed the raspberry patch but I'm spending the morning stalking literary agents and studying for my Rider 2 exam.

I don't really have a job though. At least not ONE that PAYS me anything!

so you ready to teach me how to get a flicker thing?! you clever, clever girl you! it looks great

dilling said...

wow...
i am nowhere near brave enough to mess with the template...
you're my hero.

Heidi the Hick said...

Why thank you girls, but I ain't so clever! You should have seen me fretting and squealing yesterday. Good thing Jethro was home to help me figure it out.

But the good news is, I have a lovely picture strip now and I just remembered two more very important links to add...

Heidi, I feel your pain. I'm still using my old template. I'm too scared to make the move.

I would love to drive that tractor!

Great work on the manure pile. You look nice and relaxed on the tractor. Sorry about you blog woes. Try looking at the links of blogs you read a lot. Might save you some time...

Heidi the Hick said...

Hey notsocranky!!! I just thought of it when I was driving that I have to add your link back in!

The tractor is a total blast but much slower that what you're used to!!

Corky, I might not have switched it up if it weren't for that fancy strip of photos. I really wanted that. I do think it'll we worth it in the long run. Write down all your links if you do it.

Timmy said...

I think your tractor's sexy!

Heidi the Hick said...

Yeah! I think my tractor's sexy too!!!

Coffeypot said...

Miss Heidi, You look awesome in every picture you have posted. You look good dressed-up; you look good dressed-down. You look good on the farm; you look good going to town.

Think I am ready to publish my poetry?

Heidi the Hick said...

It's awesome Mr Coffeypot. You could shelve it beside that one about the house and the mouse and the fox and the box!!
