November Stud Of The Month: Titan

Time to call in the big guy.

Draft Horse breeders apparently don't do much web advertising. It's a very close knit group. They all know each other and don't need to advertise!

But Brillinger Farms is well known around the fair circuit in Ontario. The owners of the place also own a garage franchise called Mister Transmission. (Can you say money-losing horse business tax write off???) Check out the website- they've got a few items up for sale.

I present to you....TITAN!
1999 Belgian Stallion

No height listed but he's gotta be at least 18 hh.

Draft horses are MAGNIFICENT. Every time I'm near one I'm damn near speechless.

Someday we're gonna get Jethro a nice little Belgian mare. This is his favourite breed of horse.

There are some horses that just make you gawk in amazement. Titan is truly one of those. He is gorgeous!

I know!

Seriously, check their website. Go to the Mares section. We were just sitting here dreaming about how great it would be to own a big ol Belgian mare. Named Connie or Donna, who was born on a farm owned by a guy named Yoder or Miller in Ohio, and you just know he's a Mennonite guy and knows his draft horses.

Someday maybe we'll be able to afford to feed one of those ladies...

Until then I'll gaze lovingly at Titan!

He is truly magificent!

KB has a special love for draft horses. His Grandpa had a team of Shire when he was growing up. How cool must that have been?

Anyway, nice stud of the month choice...headed to the website now!

I don't really get the horse thing. They're beautiful, and majestic, but I don't get them the way that you do. That's ok, tho. I like the pictures anyway..
I remember going to the CNE with my Dad when I was little. It was always the draft horses that amazed me. If I ever had a horse, it would be one like Titan.

I love the big horses!!! Love them! I would love to have one. When I was doing volunteer work here(helping people with disabilities ride horses), one of the horses was a big old, wide- backed, thick-legged retired carriage horse from Victoria. I wanted to bring him home every time I was there...

It's okay, you don't have to get them. I'm crazy enough about them to cover your lack, so it's all cool!

He's special though. clearly.

Cindy- I missed out on the draft horse phase of farming totally. By the time I came along the work horses had been gone for 20 years. Both my grandpa's had to be practical and not keep an animal that wasn't earning his keep...although my mom's dad liked them a lot. I think he would have kept them but didn't allow himself.

I'll make it up to him someday!

gorgeous. absolutely. and intimdating eh?

yea. if i had a sprawling space, and could afford to feed one...

dilling- the nicest thing about them is that they're so gentle. They're perfect for disabled rider programs. (can you imagine if they weren't gentle???)

Melanie- they can be intimidating. Their hooves are the size of dinner plates.

JJ- I know! Jethro and I were discussing draft horse names. They usually have people names. Except the studs. They have big names.

Mares- Bonnie, Mary
Geldings- Mike, Buck, Barney
Studs- Zeus, Poseidon!

Beautiful! He's a very fine creature. I'm always amazed how regal, and powerful, horses look.

I found you off Miss Snarks comments so I wanted to pop over and say hi...

HI :)

It's the Clydesdales that bring the beer.

Years and years ago I ran an archaeology survey on the eastern plains of Wyoming. The job lasted a couple of weeks and we were so far out in the boonies we had to camp out. No motels. A local rancher leased part of the project area from our client, and he had a herd of 10 Belgians out there. Beautiful horses.

One day we were out working and one of my guys said, "Hey look!" and pointed back toward camp. It was about 2 miles away (you can see for a looong way out there)and we could see the Belgians stampeding through camp. We were too far away to do anything about it. All the short tents got trampled or yanked out of the ground. I had a bigger tent, and one put his head through the top of it ripping a big hole.

Always prejudiced me against Belgians.

Our neighbor in Tehachapi had a very sweet Percheron, however. His name was Peewee.

Reid...a stampede of BELGIANS?!

Holy CRAP!

Nifty- love at first sight eh?

I'm actually thinking of putting a Morgan up so I'll start looking now for Mr. December!

You should have seen the hoofprints the size of dinner plates all over camp!!
