Fun on Friday

I'm actually in a bit of a foul mood today, but I'm going to try to forget all the crap in my head and cheer myself up with some of my favourite things.

MY HORSE
I just love him. You all know by now what a character he is: arrogant, stubborn, and pushy. Everything you don't want in a husband, and that makes these qualities okay to have in a horse. But he's also good with the kids. And he knows what a camera is. He does. It's hard to take a bad picture of this horse!

ROCK STARS There has been much talk around my house lately about the new Audioslave single and how we are going to buy this album when it drops. I'm surprised at this new song because it's kind of upbeat and good-times-bonfire-truck-tailgate which are all good things! but just not what I expected. But of course, me being a loser for a handsome man with a mic, I'm looking forward to More Chris Cornell.

He blew my mind about 15 years ago with this whole shirtless Seattle long haired thing, with the wailing voice and the flames and all that. I'm hopeless.

Honestly those guys are so talented it wipes me out.

Also we're still pigging out on Red Hot Chili Peppers. Some of us just about can't get enough. I'm totally despondent that I couldn't get tickets for their September Toronto shows.

This morning I picked up new ones from AFI and Wolfmother. (I probably have clothes older than these kids.)

I'm taking a big chance here; I only know one single from each. I plan to listen intently for a few days. I'll get back to you!

THE PUG
He gives me a reason to get out of the house. I'm so sick of the streets in this subdivision but he doesn't care. He just wants to walk with me.

MY CAT

He tracks litter across the floor but makes up for it with the purring and the affection.

I GOT MY DINING ROOM TABLE CLEARED OFF

It's just beautiful. Look at the light. The negative space. So minimalist and sculptural. Brad Pitt would love this.

BRAD PITT
Ok he doesn't really cheer me up because he's bad. He dumped his wife. He got his girlfriend preggers while still legally married. He's one of those "Oh baby I will totally love your kids like they were my own" guys. But he has been one of my favourites for so long. Johnny Suede. And also because I dreamed that he took me grocery shopping and I know it was just a dream...but it was so nice of him.

MY KIDS
They're just so awesome...they amaze me constantly. For the last week they've been intricately linked with their neighbour friends here in town and I have mixed feelings about it. It's great that they have friends to play with. It's good for us parents who trade off the watching of them. It's not so great for me because I'm still not used to having all these people around me, even if they're people I like. My entire adult life has been spent in an urban place (shudder) and I still haven't adjusted to being surrounded by all these houses and other people. However, my kids are having a great summer. I hope they let me spend some of it with them!

MY GARDEN

Look at this. Yes I have a farmer mailbox. It makes me happy to look at it.

DANCING
I don't care how much my back hurts. I'm gonna dance after supper tonight.

JOHNNY
Bestest just said yesterday that she finds it funny that I fell in love with Edward Scissorhands. Her daughter KK took offense to this. Johnny can do no wrong for KK and I. This weekend I'm going to finish watching Don Juan DeMarco. I love the faked accent. I love how Marlon Brando never looks like he's acting! Most of all I love the scene at the end with the meeting full of shrinks. (Yeesh. A whole room full.)

I hope I get my horse fix this weekend. I might not. But to fill the void I'm going to dance, sing, pull weeds, and maybe even pick up the guitar again. And I'm going to force myself to keep writing this novel I'm working on. Be happy dear readers. Even if you feel like crap and the gloom settles on you while the sun is shining. Even if you want to throw yourself off a cliff. We might not be able to just shake it off so easily but I for one refuse to be ruled by it.

Heidi, maybe you can answer me a question. Why do all rock stars look pissed off most of the time?

Heidi the Hick said...

It's "menacing". You must glower and be fierce! Because you ROCK!

Either that or they really are pissed off and they use it to FUEL their FACE MELTING CRUSHING RIFFAGE.

I fall for it every time.

Heidi the Hick said...

If I was a rock star though, I'd be the grinning fool like Ozzy. I'd just trade "menacing" for "Insane".

I love your cat, more than I love my own cat, he truly is a cool cat. Your kids constantly amaze me, too. Is that REALLY your dining room table?

Biddie- it is! It really is! You've never seen it without all the crap all over it! And right now there's a box of cereal and a stack of books on it.

Heidi, your dining room table rocks. Why? Oh why is it such a constant battle to keep the dining room table clean? Right now on my table: towel, tube of grout, bottles of cleaning stuff, KB's sunglasses and cope, a stapler, a placemat and I polka dotted vase that makes me smile. So much crap!

I cant get enough of the Peppers either! The more I listen, the more I love.

I tried to get tickets anywhere in the states and no such luck unless I wanted to sit in the nose bleed section.

That just wont due for a boy that met Anthony, Flea and Dave at the One Hot Minute tour.

Cheer up sweetie pie!

In the words(that offended KK) of my mother "I'm Johnny Depp and I have scissors for hands." but you have to make cutting actions with your fingers. But I too love your dog and cat and sometimes your horse - it really depends if I'm riding him.

I just thought of this... in 1989 or 90, I was living in L.A. My friends and I worked a crappy wage job with ticketmaster just cuz we loved the music so much.
We were shopping in a used record(as in vinyl) store when Anthony came in and started going through the bins near us. I was looking at a Lounge Lizards album. I distinctly remember that. I don't know what he was looking at. Holy Crap... I was a giddy, dorky, just post teenager and Anthony K. from the RHCP is right there, man!!!!! I walked up to the counter and because it was L.A., and you just never know unless you ask,...I asked the guy behind the counter if he had any handcuffs for sale. He didn't, obviously, or I might still be there at every concert, chained to Anthony's ankle.
Damnit, anyway.

As usual, I love your pictures. Your pug is so darn cute! What is his name anyway?

Our dining room table has only been cleared off once in the 2 years we've lived in this house. I might clear it for my sister's visit...

I like Brad Pitt too. Could do without all this Angolie crap though. I thought he was awesome in Fight Club and Snatch.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend! Cheers!

Dilling- thanks!

CindyDi- it's a constant battle! I don't know why. I actually have a hard time with all horizontal surfaces. aarrgghh

Kari, he's looking normal to me now and other dogs look kinda weird. You do understand my cat: he'd prefer to be called "handsome."

Also that was some damn good advice there!!!

Tim- It's unreal how fast those tickets went. We were online at 9:59am and they were gone at 10:00. I'd like to know who the hell has them all!!!!

Bunny- Those lilies came out of a ditch! They're so resilient. They'll take over but I kind of like that about them.

I'll post more of the novel again soon. I just have to decide which part. I'm relieved that you want more!

KC- I'm gonna walk around doing that now.

Dilling, chained to Anthony's ankle....I'm building a history of making a fool of myself in front of the famous. I don't know what I'd do if I met him. Probably beg for a full body hug. I need a hug...

Yankee- I always love your pix too and can't wait to see your newest Italy photos! Our dog is named after a house elf. Harry Potter's little buddy.

I'm hoping to have a good weekend too!

That's a good name for a pug!

I was gone so long I've barely had time to READ the blogs, much less write anything since I got home...

Oh, I hope your weekend was good. I'm back and in a bit of a miserable place too — but it's still good to be back. Much love, pluvialis x

Nifty It's funny you say that since I wasn't positively impressed with the single when I first heard it. Now of course it's grown on me enough to take a chance on the whole thing! I'll tell you my entire opinion in a few days.

Oh Pluvialis, it was okay but not as good as I'd hoped! As soon as blogger smartens up I'm going to read about your time away. Have I ever thanked you for all the pictures of places I've never been????

Thank you!!!!

Oops. Wrong post, below. I was just saying how that horse will make a Grade-A adhesive one day.

Chris Cornell? Great singer!

Jewel- AGREED!

The rock star thing is true. My rock star gave it up for life on the other side of the board. He's still slightly arrogant though. Just enough to be fun...

BUTT- You meant the bike, right? RIGHT?! When that ol hoss croaks I should bronze him and set him in the yard so he can watch the tractor forever. Not like he could see it or anything....
