Looking at Michael Phelps and thinkin about hay bales...

So even if you live under a rock, and only get one channel on your TV, which is in your basement, and the only show you watch is Canadian (World of Earl) Idol,  you still know about Michael Phelps.

The record breaking, medal adorned, swimming machine, stunning athlete.  Not to mention really easy on the eyes...

I recently read in the paper that he's really built for this.  He's 6'4" tall, with a wingspan of 6'7". He's got a long, slim torso, so he can swim like a dolphin.  His legs aren't long in proportion to the rest of him, but he's got these big flippin flippers - size 14 feet.

Hey, I know a guy with size 14 feet!  You know what they say about men with big feet, eh?

They need big shoes.

!

I think it's interesting how different athletic events affect an athlete's body.  Swimmers have beautiful smooth muscles, runners have long corded muscles with lines of definition, weightlifters are wrapped in chunks of muscles flexing with effort.  It goes beyond sports though, really.  New mothers have magnificent biceps from hauling Jr around.  Guitar players develop long ropes of muscle in their forearms.  That kind of thing.

So when I get to thinking about 23 year olds with lovely upper bodies I have flashbacks of shyly admiring the young fellas on the hay wagons.  Some were new at haying.  They'd been warned to wear jeans to keep from getting hay scratches on their legs but figured they could still go shirtless.  Next day, they'd be wearing shirts.

Oh well.  There was always a chance that the shirts would come off when they were done and felt like hosing off all the sticky hay chaff.  While I pretended I wasn't watching, of course.

I really should be washing dishes and preparing for Robert Plant's birthday tomorrow, but I just kind of...

Okay?

EVERYBODY GO READ THE INDIEFAITH POST!

Because y'know, not to belittle the Phelps accomplishment, but listen, Mark Spitz won all those swimming gold medals with a full head of hair and a giant Freddie Mercury style mustache! I mean, how fast did he have to go to overcome that kind of aerodynamic drag? Seriously!

And David, I'd have to say that technically my head's not in the gutter... it's in the haywagon! Bwa ha ha ha ha!

Cindy, apparently that's the big story in the news, but how the heck would I know?

I was wondering why there was always drops of water on his torso...

Tee hee!

(And Mark Spitz was pissed and whining that he wasn't given a special invitation to the Olympics. He said "So, I am just going to go and sit in the stands? I don't think so." Why not Mark? Mary Lou Retton was just sitting in the stands with all the other schmucks. Just sayin')

All I care about is, does he still have that mustache? Because that is one magnificent mustache.

I say we bring it back. Mark my words, you'll be seeing more Speedos next year...

which may not always be a good thing...

cuz it's not real practical for workwear...

LOL. Preparing for Robert Plants birthday?? Is there a surprise party? What would I give a guy like him??

Mark is just another old man, and I don't care if his feelings are hurt. The only thing I am impressed about is that Michael is ADHD and is now worth over $15 million. Not bad for a 'problem child.'

Coffeypot- I love that, and I think that's why I love his story of triumph so much. I know how hard it is to motivate an ADD kid (ahem, or myself) and the hyperactivity is even more difficult to manage.

Finding that passion is crucial, and his parents stuck him in the water and yelled GO! and look at him now.

But I still wanna know if Mark Spitz still has that mustache.

Biddie - I dunno... what do you give a 60 year old rock god who has everything, including my adoration?

Get this - my dog has the same birthday! It's like destiny, or density or something. Cooooool.

He IS easy on the eyes... and he's ADHD? COOL! A role model for my son... :)

(with the beginning of homeschool my blog reading time has been taken over, I'm trying to fit it back into my schedule somewhere!)

Hey! It's almost 4 am, that means it's officially Robert Plant's birthday... woo hoo! Should be like a global holiday or something, shouldn't it??

This is why vacations stink.... I'm so late to your Phelps party!

I almost put this photo on my blog... it's on my hard drive just waiting... but then, I thought my husband might see it and wonder... and also my mother and sister.... and I decided to keep it for myself. But seeing it here is just as good!

As for the Spitz thing... I was just totally saying that the other day. The hair, the mustache, the lack of aerospace engineering in hi suit. It's amazing he won anything at all. Just think what he could have done if he'd shaved and swam in the "fast pool."

So, I'm avoiding Fay, running around the beach and thoroughly enjoying myself.... and missing being here with all my friends at the same time. Phelps on your blog, !!!!!!! on Jen's.... I'm just so behind!

Well Heidi I'm just glad you made it here!

Clearly I don't worry about what my husband thinks of me putting up photos of speedo clad young men on my blog. My mom would probably just roll her eyes and shut if off and tease me later. Heck even my pastor reads my blog and for all I know he'll ask me on Sunday if my head's still in the gutter!

I say we do a Spitz- Phelps swim off, only Phelps has to wear a 70s speedo and grow a huge 'stache.

It'll be fun.

Anita- total role model, I agree. Work it. ANd come back for the birthday party...

As nice as he looks, I wanna say "Kid, pull up your pants!"

He is really easy on the eyes tho, as are all the other swimmers!
