Unexpected

Yesterday I asked for prayers for a young girl in a health crisis. So many of you responded that it brought me to tears. I need to make it so very clear that any of your prayers or good positive thoughts are appreciated and I wish I had enough words to tell you...just, thank you.

Jessica is still in the hospital and will be until next week. She wishes she was in school with her friends, but according to her mom, she's looking better and more like herself. I don't know yet how much damage there is or what the future holds. Honestly I'm quite scared for the whole family. Don't want to think about it, really. Can't think about it.

I just want you all to know that this amount of care means a lot to me and to Bridget. When I suggested that she start a blog to start writing again, neither of us expected to find a place where people would care so much, people who start off as a user name and maybe a tiny picture, and become some kind of friend.

Thank you

You are going to make me cry again. In a good way. I am SO late today. Shawn left work and we are heading up together. I'll keep you posted.
I love you. Big time. I made the right choice when I made you Godmother.
Man, I'm smart :)

Consider a string of prayers coming your way across the Canadian Rockies for Jessica.
May she get well. Soon.

Hey everybody

I talked to Biddie at 2 this afternoon. She was at the hospital with Jess. "I signed her out like a library book!" They were sitting outside together.

Jessica is bored stiff. That's the good news! The not so good news is that her numbers are all over the place, and she's not going home until it's leveled out.

And that's all we know right now.

Thanks for all the good thoughts and prayers and positive energy. You all rock.

Wow. What happened to this little gal? Did she forget to do her insulin? I've had many students with diabetes, and the only ones who've ever been hospitalized over it were 2 girls who decided to diet and skip meals. Dumb!
Granted, all the teen diabetics are retricted in varioius ways, but all the ones I know are quite able to live mostly normal lives.
Does your little friend have some other health issues as well that are complicating things?
Best wishes to her.

The biggest complication is that her monitor was off. They usually check it for functioning at her appointment but it really wasn't working right. As a result she was giving herself too much insulin.

Otherwise, it's always been a challenge getting everything regulated. Even when she's been checked into the hospital in the past it's been hard for the doctors and nurses to get it right.

I would love a cure for diabetes. I mean, thank God for Banting and Best, because their work has kept many of my loved ones alive...but a CURE would be even better.

I am so glad to hear Jessica is doing better!

One day, there will be a cure for diabetes, and folks like Jessica and others will be able to lead lives that don't involve insulin, special diets, and constant blood monitoring!
