I'm editing- again. Submerged in words. This is it. Revision #8. I thought it was ready, but it wasn't. I refuse to rush it now. Slapping it together and throwing it out there, hoping somebodypleaseanybody will take it, is not good enough. However. I've been in town for almost two weeks, the street is still under construction, and I miss the farm. Time to go through some pictures of the tree house the kids (mostly Bucky) built last time we were there.
They usually spend a huge amount of time hanging around -literally- in that tree but it's more high tech now! It's not really a tree house so much as it's a tree platform but the point is that my kids built it with minimal help from their Grampa and NO help from either parents, one of whom was in the city recording the last batch of Christmas records this year, and the other in the barn hobbling around on a sore knee, sweeping cobwebs.
I thought they did a pretty good job.
They rigged up a rope ladder...
...and a bucket on a rope kind of thing...
...and I have no idea...
...what...exactly they were planning up there...
...or even who took the pictures...
...while I was limping around in the barn, instead of climbing the tree...
...doing cool stuff...
...spying on horses...
It was really hot that week. Can you see the heat haze in the air? I was okay, hiding out in the barn, protected by the thick stone foundation. And up there in the tree, two kids forgot to fight with each other, long enough to create a world.

It looks like they were having a blast!! Look at the Little Mare in her fly mask!
I always wanted a treehouse...
I could hear them up there, singing away, chattering, laughing! And yeah, they did start fighting again eventually. Had to happen.
I'm so glad they have a tree to hang out of!
The Little Mare is happy in her fly mask. Her eyes get runny in the sun and then the flies sit there driving her crazy. Also...my dad would rather mask them than put repellant on their faces!
looks so good up in that tree house, wish i could come and play in it to, oh to be young and care free again such bliss
That's lovely, Heidi. A summer the kids will no doubt remember always. Our kids love their tree platform/house, too. It's important for them to have an outdoor space that's all their own.
But don't even get me started about the flies.
Isn't it amazing to watch these splendid little creatures grow? Gaining skills and confidence while they think they're just having fun.
I, too, love those remarkable times when they are so involved that they forget to fight.
yeharr
I’ll take a summer day in a tree house, regardless of temperature, over a day in the air-conditioned room any time.
Trees are absolutely the coolest plant on earth... I used to spend hours in the one in my back yard when I was growing up, even though I didn't have a cool treehouse like this one...
Such a nice moment in time for your kidlets. Good luck with rewrite number 8!!
