He's two years old today. Guess what he's getting for his birthday?
NOTHIN!
C'mon. I grew up on a farm. If we had birthdays for critters, we'd be partying non-stop. Although that could be fun...
The Pug is still crazy, but he's grown up enough that he is capable of chilling out and relaxing. He's much less demanding now. Other pug owners tell me that he'll eventually settle down and turn into a total couch potato. It hasn't happened yet. So far he's only a part time couch potato.
When we brought him home as a two month old puppy, we had a list of names that we thought would suit him. Since we named our cat after our favourite guitarist, Nigel Tufnel of Spinal Tap, we figured we could give our dog a good rock star name. The front runners were:
OZZY
LEMMY
DIO
LARS
But instead, we named him after a different hero...somebody with a famously funny face, if not the most universally accepted version of "good looking"...somebody ultimately loyal, endearing, and funny...
...and it's turned out to be an excellent name, since our dog is a pretty good little house elf, and really does like socks. Throw him a sock, and he's happy!
Except I do think my dog is a little better looking than the elf.
He knows his name, but answers to "Nigel."
He has lots of girlfriends. This is his friend Jazz. She's old and maternal. She's not afraid to stick a paw on him and put him in his place.
This is his girlfriend Ruby. She's young and pretty. They sniff each other a lot.
This little dog has turned me into one of those people who talks baby talk to a critter. I can't believe it. I never had a small dog, or a house dog, or a paid-for dog, before him. I will never live without a dog ever again!

How can something so ugly be so cute? Then I look in the mirror and I understand. Pugs have a way of getting next to you, too. And the picture of Ozzie is what I feel like first thing in the morning (with shorter hair and less makeup.) Happy Birthday, Dobie Nigel.

He is too cute for words. Ruby thought that he was in the car the last time that you guys came out to get us. She was so bummed when he didn't come in to help her tear up the house.
I KNEW that you a baby talking-sweater wearing- dog mom in no time. Little dogs have a way of doing that to you.
