Funny Conversations After Church

So we were talking with Mike the Vet after church this morning. He's great. We were reminiscing about that time when the King sliced open his fetlock and Mike had to stitch up an artery and I was being his little assistant and fetching things for him. And how after he was done he ordered me to sit down on the tack box and put my head down. I protested. I felt fine. He said, "Siddown on that box and get your forehead on your knees." So I did, what the heck, and just as I sat down I groaned with the sudden wave of nausea that instantly hit. Because, you see, Mike knew.

Today he showed us this nasty cut on the thumb side of his hand. I mean nasty: the whole side of his hand was bruised. He'd been floating a horse's teeth, which basically means filing the sharp edges off. Long story short, the big scissor-like device, the gag, that holds the horse's mouth open for such a procedure, ended up closing on his hand.

Yeah. Ow.

Mike's gem of wisdom: "It was a very efficient reminder to make sure the horse is tranquilized before sticking my hand in his mouth." He is totally straight faced and matter-of-fact when he says this.

So then Mike says, "Yeah, I'm used to sticking my hand in the other end. Much safer. No teeth in there."


When we were all done laughing he added, "And if there are, you know there's something wrong."

I love going to church.
