I love smashing stereotypes. I'll be the first to admit that they exist for a reason, but there are always exceptions. Always.
Take being Mennonite. This is probably what you think of:
Obviously. The funny thing is, I could be related to any of those women. If you wanted a photo of a Mennonite woman I could have just put up a picture of myself. But I won't. I'm afraid the camera will steal my soul. A haw haw haw haw! That's a bunch of bull by the way. They're really just taking the whole Graven Images thing very literally.
So the other day, I was looking through some Rolling Stone mags from a few months back. Here's the front cover of one of them:
Imagine my delight when I realize that our cover girl here, Evangeline Lilly, from the show "Lost", is one of My People! I quote, "Raised Baptist and Mennonite, Lilly taught Sunday School For eight years..." Then it goes on to say what a potty mouthed tomboy she is. Girl after my own heart!
Now really all this means is that her parents didn't get a guy in a long robe to drip water on her head when she was a baby. She decided herself when to get it done, if she did at all. (I got baptised at 27.)
I just think this is great. You know, she really is beautiful. Let's get another look.
Jethro's comment was, "So what? Your whole family is full of gorgeous Mennonites."
